Hi Everyone!
If you are like me you are getting super excited for the upcoming book studies! I am going to be one of the facilitators for a chapter in each of the books. This past school year was my first one and I taught 6th grade Language Arts. On my campus, our ELA classes were double blocked so we had students for 2 class periods. This next school year I will have 5 classes that will be 55 minutes each for ELA. I am nervous about the shorter amount of time I have, but I know that I would still like to implement The Daily 5 and CAFE within my class period. The question though is how can I make that happen? Hopefully several of you will be able to help me figure that out during the study! :)
In honor of the upcoming book studies, I am giving away a copy of each book, The Daily 5 and CAFE, on my blog. Head on over and enter for your chance to win! The giveaway will be going through June 6th so there is enough time for the books to arrive at the winner's house before we start the book study.

3rd Grade Thoughts
I've been using Daily 5 and CAFE for about 4 years now and LOVE it! My partner and I started out as an experiment that has gone viral through our building. We even have it geared towards math. Can't wait to be part of the conversation!

Woo hoo! I was planning on reading both these books over the summer and am going to the lone ranger as I implement them in my room. I am STOKED that I can follow along with y'all while we read it!
I love the idea, count me in!!!!!
I am very excited to connect with other upper grade teachers as I am the only one implementing both programs.
I know that I'm not in the "upper" grades...I'm a *brand-spankin' new First Grade teacher*...but I hope that I can still participate. I just bought these books to read over the summer, and it would be great to be able to read and discuss them with other teachers. =) I am *VERY* interested in implementing them in my classroom. Every little bit helps, right?

I am also a "newbie" going into a lower grade (kindergarten), but the school that I have been working at uses daily 5 and loves it! I hope I can join the conversations too :)
This will be my second year in 4th grade after 11 in kindergarten and I have been wanting to read these 2 books. I can't wait!

I just graduated. During my student teaching I had the chance to observe a classroom that uses The Daily 5. It was excellent.
Being a new graduate I can't afford the book yet, but it is on my wish list.
I did come across a great class web site that is great for beginners and those that want to check out the program before they buy the book. I would like to share the link with you.

I have used the Daily 5 and CAFE for five years. I am looking forward to following your blog to see if I can get some fresh new ideas.
First year teacher here looking to start the Daily 5 in my ELA classes in August - but I only have 60 minutes for my reading block! Eeeek! I hope the book study will help me with ideas on how to work around the short time frame, too! Super excited to get started!

For those of you with around an hour...I did Daily 5 this year with that time constraint. Instead of all 5 every day, we usually got in 2 per day, which got us through all 5 twice within the week. The students chose when to do the activities, but I also tracked it to make sure they got everything in! It I definitely doable in a modified form! Can't wait for this book study as a "refresher"! Btw...I teach 5th and don't have a blog (yet)!
