Are you ready? Have you read the Chapter 1 of The Daily 5? Tomorrow, Sunday, July 1st, Abby Spann from Third Grade Bookworm will be starting us off with her thoughts (and even a freebie) about Chapter 1. If you haven't started reading your book you still have time. Abby's post will go live at 7:00AM central time!
I have finished reading and can't wait to see what others say. I only became aware of the Daily 5 this past school year and am interested to see how others implement.
I finished the introduction yesterday. It was such an easy read. I am reading it on my Kindle and highlighted a bunch of information which will be helpful when discussing this with teachers next year. I used my version of Daily 5 last year, but never dreamed of allowing the students to cycle through the components of their choice and holding them responsible for ensuring they accomplish a different component in each period. I love that idea. It is a great way to teach students independence and responsibility. It also makes me think about the importance of spending time developing this routine. It is definitely not something that will happen in a couple lessons.
I am excited to read the rest and implement the D5 in my reading classes this year. I am moving from 1st grade which I have taught for 11 years to 6-8th grade reading. It should be an adventure!
